The Road to Carbon Neutrality

Sustain on the Brain – our mantra since Day 1. We have always been absolutely passionate about creating a company that looks after the planet we live on, and the people that live on it. Of course, we want our business to be profitable, but not at the expense of our environment, our community, or our employees.

We know that everything we do has sustainability at its heart, but we also know that to be truly sustainable and to minimise our impact on our world, we are going to be on a constant journey of improvement, education, and adaptation. We also realise that just telling people we’re doing it often isn’t enough. So, we decided that it was time to get some real and respected 3rd party accreditation to ratify our Sustain on the Brain.

First off the blocks is our journey towards becoming B Corp certified. Here’s a little bit about what this means (in BCorps own words):

Certified B Corporations are businesses that meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose. B Corps are accelerating a global culture shift to redefine success in business and build a more inclusive and sustainable economy.

By harnessing the power of business, B Corps use profits and growth as a means to a greater end: positive impact for their employees, communities, and the environment. The B Corp community works toward reduced inequality, lower levels of poverty, a healthier environment, stronger communities, and the creation of more high-quality jobs with dignity and purpose.

B Corps form a community of leaders and drive a global movement of people using business as a force for good.

At the moment, we are really close to getting our initial impact assessment completed and we hope that we’ll be at the next stage of full accreditation in the latter part of this year.

Next, we have targeted ourselves with becoming carbon neutral by the end of 2021. We’re working with a great team at Blue Marble to hold our hands on this journey. This will be an awesome achievement for us and the continuous monitoring that we will be undertaking really will make a difference to our carbon footprint.

And to top it all, we’re also working towards being ISO14001 accredited by September (ISO 9001 too just to keep us fully on our toes).

We’ve never been ones to shout about our achievements, but we can’t help it when it comes to Sustain on the Brain – it’s in us! Look out for further developments on our social and web channels.

Next up on Dirty Hands will be news about Rawside Soul & Country – exciting developments in our manufacturing and logistics facilities – can’t wait to tell you.
